The Sacred Art of Waiting on God
Share
Waiting may be one of the hardest things God ever asks of us. The prayer that hasn't been answered yet. The door that hasn't opened. The season that seems to stretch on with no end in sight. We can trust God and still find the waiting almost unbearable.
If you're in a season of waiting today, you are not being overlooked. You are in a place Scripture treats as holy ground.
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." — Isaiah 40:31
Notice the promise isn't given to those who rush ahead or those who give up. It's given to those who wait — who hope in the Lord. Waiting, it turns out, is not wasted time. It's where strength is renewed.
Waiting Is Not the Same as Doing Nothing
We tend to think of waiting as empty, passive, a pause before real life resumes. But biblical waiting is active. It's leaning into God, trusting when we can't see, staying faithful in the in-between.
A farmer who plants a seed isn't doing nothing while he waits for harvest — unseen growth is happening beneath the soil. In your season of waiting, God is at work in ways your eyes can't yet detect. The stillness is not emptiness. It's preparation.
God Often Works Most in the Waiting
Look through Scripture and you'll find the waiting rooms were rarely wasted. Joseph waited years before his purpose unfolded. Abraham and Sarah waited decades for a promise. Even Jesus waited thirty years before His ministry began.
The waiting wasn't a delay to their calling — it was part of it. God uses the wait to shape us, deepen our roots, and prepare us to carry what we've been asking for. Sometimes He's not just preparing the blessing for you; He's preparing you for the blessing.
Renewed Strength for the Weary
Perhaps the sweetest part of the promise is this: those who wait will renew their strength. Waiting depletes us — we know that. But God offers an exchange. We bring Him our exhaustion; He gives back strength that isn't our own.
Notice the progression, too: soar, run, walk. We often want to soar. But there's a quiet grace in that final line — "walk and not be faint." Some seasons aren't about soaring. They're about simply not fainting, putting one foot in front of the other. And even that steady, ordinary walking is a gift of His strength.
Holding On to Hope
So if you're waiting today, don't lose heart. Your prayers are not falling on deaf ears. Your season is not forgotten. The God who made the promise is faithful to keep it, in His perfect timing.
Keep hoping in Him. Keep showing up. Keep taking the next small step. The wait will not last forever, and it is not without purpose. Strength is being renewed in you, even now.
A Moment to Reflect
What are you waiting on God for right now, and how have you been carrying that wait?
What might God be growing in you during this season that couldn't grow any other way?
A Blessing for You
Beloved, may God renew your strength in the waiting. May you find that the in-between is not empty but holy — a place where He is quietly at work. When you're weary, may you soar; when you can't soar, may you run; and when you can only walk, may you not grow faint. He is faithful. His timing is perfect. Your hope is not in vain.
Wait well, dear heart. Strength is on the way. 💜
